The trial included (1) minimum inhibitory concentrations test and (2) time kill assay, both completed three times with the following organisms:

• Pseudomonas aeruginosa (gram negative bacteria)
• Malassezia pachydermatis (yeast)
• Malassezia furfur (yeast)
• Microsporum canis (dermatophyte fungus – otherwise known as ringworm)

(1) Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations

In this trial each of the shampoos were diluted to a series of concentrations ranging from 16% to 0.00001% product. The lowest concentration of product preventing the growth of the test organism was determined as the minimum inhibitory concentration. Both showed highly effective against all organisms and an identical Minimum Inhibitory Concentration at less than a 1:2000 dilution.

(2) Time Kill Assay

This test was carried out to determine how quickly the test organisms were killed when in contact with the two products (using a 10% solution of each). Results for both shampoos showed that the bacteria and fungi were all killed immediately and no organisms were recovered at any time points. There was a moderate loss of viability over time with the yeasts with both shampoos. This is normal and to be expected.
